Porirua — A City of Cultures, A Heart of Unity
What an amazing morning tea event we had with our local community. Stories were shared, games were played and we had such a nice time getting to know each other. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers and board members for all the kai, preparations and support.
Our first hui (meeting) last night with our new Board was full of whakawhanaungatanga and positive conversation. With members who whakapapa to Cambodia, South Africa, Sāmoa, Niue, Sri Lanka, Latin America, Ireland, and Fiji and now call Porirua home we are blessed to have such energy, knowledge and lived experience in the room.
Na mai, haere mai! Tonight, Porirua welcomed 61 people from 37 families from 21 nationalities. Our Damodar was there to help roll out the red carpet for those new to the Porirua whānau.
PMC was lucky to host a beautiful shared lunch where members of the community came and shared some yummy kai. It was a blast to sample the different cuisines from everyone’s cultures and appreciate the beauty which is multiculturalism in a simple way of sharing kai and love.
